Most online acupuncture courses seem to consist of learning TCM by route and then being tested on your knowledge. That's fine if you are interested in learning only theory but its not what this course is about.
The HAC course seeks to be as interactive and inspiring as possible. You are actively encouraged to practice the practical techniques, do simple meditation and energy exercises and learn basic theory in a creative and interesting way. Every student is different and some will enjoy the videos while others may prefer the recommended reading. In any event this course is about actually learning to practice acupuncture.
The course has been devised and written by me, Jamie Hedger based on my 20+ years experience including 13 years teaching in a large UK college and many years running independent courses. All opinions expressed here are my own and I retain full rights over all the material which cannot be reproduced without permission.

Format
Each lesson will introduce the material, ideas, theoretical concepts and show video as seen in the introductory lesson. It will also guide you to the directed reading and practical work. If you want this course to work properly you will need to make a commitment to do the reading, carry out the practical tasks and do the assessment for each lesson before moving forward. Each lesson will take a minimum of a week but I anticipate that most people will wish to take longer than that. The more local help and guidance you can get with the practical tasks the better. For example its well worth paying an experienced local acupuncturist for a couple of sessions of their time to help you with point location and I may know someone in your area who can help. In addition to this for uk students I will offer some skills days in order to practice. Availability of these will depend upon demand and classes will be in the Bath area. Once you have completed the assessments you check yourself against the answer sheet provided. You can e mail me with any follow up questions you may have. If you find that you are consistently scoring less than 50% you need to consider re doing the lesson before moving forward. I do not impose strict rules on you about this, I encourage you to be committed to your own learning and discipline yourself.
You can stop after the 10 sessions if you wish, but to pass the full course and graduate with a certificate you will need to attend the 5 days and pass the tests with us as well.
Note that this is a basic course to get you started safely and competently and there is always more to learn and more to experience. As you treat people and build your practice you will research, study and develop your own style of working. Some acupuncturists choose to specialize in areas such as Fertility, Children, Cosmetic, Addiction etc, we have some extra days and other resources to help with this and can also advise you about other courses, books etc.

Each Complete Lesson including video, downloads and e mail correspondence costs £46. This assumes one participant per purchase. If another person wishes to do the course as well please purchase another course. Lessons can be paid for one at a time, spreading the cost.

The 5 Days Practical Course fee is £510 in the UK, all fees must be paid in advance. Additional skills days when they run will cost £100 in advance.
The 5 Days on skills and techniques under supervision + Practical exams of Clean Needle Technique (CNT) and point location (PL) will normally be done in Bath, UK. However, I do have colleagues who may be able to run the course in your area. This will depend upon location, numbers, venue costs etc.
Graduation & Certificates, On completion of the whole of the online course and the 5 follow up days and passing of the exams we will issue students with a “Certificate of Competence to Practice” this will enable you to purchase insurance and practice in the UK. You will be listed on the AHPR register.

CNT Exam is Pass/Fail (we generally re do the procedure until pass standard is reached)
PL Exam: Practical marking of points on the body (3 Marks available per point: Perfect = 3 Near = 2 Part correct eg measurement good but point not right 1) 20 points, pass mark 70%. We learn about 60-70 points.
Written exam is very similar to the one you did at lesson 10. 50 short answer questions, Passmark 40%
